Service Disruption FAQ

We know you have questions. Here's what we can share right now.

What's going on?

In February, an unauthorized third-party remotely accessed the systems that house NewspaperArchive.com and encrypted some systems, which disrupted the site's functionality.

Once we were aware, we started our incident response plan, engaging leading cybersecurity firms to contain the unauthorized access, secure our systems, and investigate what occurred. That investigation is ongoing.

We are making significant progress and believe we will be able to restore services in a timely manner. Our intent is to restore access when we can do so securely. We do not expect access will be restored before the end of March. We are confident we will restore the complete database.

In appreciation for your patience, we are offering paid subscribers an extension of their subscription by at least 30 days at no charge as restitution for the downtime of services. Click here to claim your extension.

We'll continue to post updates as we have confirmed information to share.

When will newspaperarchive.com be back up?

Our intent is to restore access when we can do so securely. We don't expect to have access restored before the end of March. We are making significant progress and believe we will be able to restore services in a timely manner.

Is my personal data compromised?

There is no evidence at this time that any personal information was impacted. We rely on a third-party, who is not impacted, for financial transactions and to manage financial data.

What are you doing to reinforce site security?

We are currently working with leading cybersecurity advisors and enhancing our security posture. When the investigation is complete, we will evaluate their recommendations.
